Our videos set the standard for speed tests, battery battles, and automated testing. Now, we’re expanding into new categories and deeper storytelling formats. That’s where you come in. What You’ll Do We’re looking for a writer who loves technology and knows how to turn insights and test data into stories people actually want to watch. Your responsibilities will include: Writing scripted content for YouTube (6–20 min), Shorts (30–90 sec), and other social cutdowns Collaborating with the host, editor, and researcher to transform lab data into engaging narratives Writing with clarity and confidence, making complex ideas simple and watchable Developing hooks, titles, transitions, and video frameworks that keep audiences engaged Fact-checking, researching, and comparing products to industry benchmarks Writing both organic and sponsored content that feels authentic to our audience Storyboarding and pitching ideas that fit our testing frameworks Supporting content beyond smartphones (e.g. laptops, desktops, wearables) Occasionally attending launches or tech events when needed Who You Are You’re not just a writer. You’re a tech enthusiast who can think critically, write clearly, and tell great stories. You understand that a great script isn’t just accurate, it’s interesting. You should be: A strong writer who can script for both long-form and short-form video Deeply interested in consumer tech (especially computers, laptops, GPUs, and peripherals) Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and comfortable working without constant direction A team player who thrives in creative collaboration Skilled at turning lab results, impressions, and visuals into story-driven scripts Requirements Must live within commuting distance of Temecula, CA (this is an in-office position) Proven experience in tech journalism, YouTube scripting, or creative agency writing Strong understanding of computers and smartphones You’ll be quizzed on your technical knowledge (don’t apply if you can’t talk tech) Writing samples or portfolio links are required Clear sense of pacing, structure, and retention in your writing Familiarity with iOS, Android, macOS, Windows, and key players (Apple, Samsung, ASUS, Lenovo, NVIDIA, etc.) Excellent communication and follow-through Bonus Points Experience writing for on-camera delivery or YouTube creators Background in laptop or PC performance reviews Familiarity with testing, benchmarks, or robotic workflows Experience using AI tools like ChatGPT or Notion AI for research and drafting Visual storytelling instincts (thinking in terms of cuts, not just sentences) What You’ll Get Your work featured in videos seen by millions across YouTube, Snap, and social Mentorship in creative writing and content strategy A collaborative workplace surrounded by cutting-edge tech (and robots) Health insurance, paid holidays, and time off Regular 9–5 schedule, only occasional launch-day crunches Why It’s Worth It At PhoneBuff, your work doesn’t disappear into a content void.
