Position Description Position Summary: The Success Coach provides personalized academic support to students, with a primary focus on providing accommodations to students with disabilities in accessing and utilizing disability-related accommodations. In addition, this role will support students in improving their overall academic performance through tutoring, academic coaching, and strategies for success in areas such as time management, test-taking, and study skills in partnership with Learning Assistance Programs. This position is integral to helping students overcome challenges, build self-confidence, and achieve educational goals. This Success Coach position is based at the Cornish College of the Arts at Seattle University (CCOA-SU) campus in South Lake Union but is part of the Disability Services team at the main Seattle University campus. This Student Success Coach will support both CCOA-SU and main SU campus students. Key Responsibilities: Disability-Related Accommodations Support: 65% Under the leadership of the Senior Director of Disabilities Services, Success Coach meets with students for Access Planning Meetings, reviews accommodation requests, supporting documentation, and approves accommodation requests in consultation with the Senior Director. Orients students to accommodation procedures and services; provide individual support and advocacy for students with disabilities, helping them navigate barriers to access and ensuring they have support. Meets with students from both campuses to assess their specific needs and approve appropriate disability-related accommodations. Works with students and faculty to identify and implement appropriate disability-related accommodations, ensuring compliance with institutional policies and legal requirements. Maintain accurate records of accommodations and related correspondence in compliance with privacy regulations and institutional guidelines. Tutoring, Academic Coaching, and Success Strategies: 35% Assist students in developing strategies to enhance their academic skills, including time management, study habits, test-taking strategies, and goal-setting. Assist students in identifying academic strengths and challenges, and offer strategies for addressing barriers to success. Work with students to identify personalized study strategies, such as creating effective study plans, using active learning techniques, and developing effective note-taking methods. In conjunction with LAP, provide workshops and group opportunities to help students improve their ability to manage their time effectively, prioritize tasks, and balance academic and personal commitments. Meet individually with students to provide tailored advice and solutions to address individual academic challenges, adjusting approaches as needed to support the diverse needs of students. Refer students to academic resources (e.g., tutoring, writing center, library) to support their individual needs. Qualifications Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field. Experience working with students with disabilities, ideally in a higher education setting. Knowledge of accessibility issues in higher education and familiarity with accommodations and assistive technologies. Strong knowledge of academic coaching, study skills, and tutoring techniques. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse student populations. Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information. Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in Education, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field Certification or training in academic coaching, disability services, or a related field. Experience with specific learning disabilities, ADHD, or mental health challenges. Familiarity with assistive technology tools and software for students with disabilities.
