EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Required: Master's Degree in Special Education or related field Current Colorado administrator/principal license with preference given to Special Education Director License 3 or more years of experience in district-level special education administration Preferred: Previous experience in building-level administration

JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective: In collaboration with other Directors of Special Education in the department, coordinate educational programs for students receiving special education services district-wide including associated programming and supports. Essential Functions Provides oversight for programming aimed at improving the academic achievement of students with disabilities. Designs and implements professional development opportunities for both special education and general education staff. Works with parent organizations and advisory groups. Assists general education classroom staff and administration in developing special education services for students while being served in the general education setting including the provision of appropriate accommodations. Monitors and evaluates special education program effectiveness and guides improvement practices as needed through the development of procedures and identification of training needs. Provides support and works collaboratively with site leadership in the evaluation of special education staff within designated buildings. Creates and maintains written procedures to support special education staff in the provision of special education services in alignment with state and federal rules and regulations. Supports communication with all school and community stakeholders. Assists Executive Director of Special Education in recruitment, selection, assignment and retention of highly qualified special education teachers, specialized service providers, and ancillary personnel. Assists in the development and reporting of special education resources in alignment with state and federal guidelines. Assists in the creation of Colorado Department of Education (CDE) reports and continuous improvement monitoring process (CIMP). Responds to concerns of parents/guardians, teachers, building administrators, and community members. Mediate disputes as needed. Supports the Executive Director to effectively manage the department budget. Approves special education staff requests for supplies, materials, and equipment. Engages new staff members in effective induction process and facilitates ongoing professional development Ensures equity and access for ALL students.
