Overview East Side House Settlement (ESH) is a community resource in the South Bronx. We believe education is the key that enables all people to create economic and civic opportunities for themselves, their families, and their communities. East Side House’s Early Childhood programs provide Early Head Start and Head Start services in a safe, supportive, educational environment for children ages 18+ months to 5 years of age. Serving 231 children daily from five locations, the comprehensive program is designed to develop the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills of children in a safe, supportive environment. Children and families receive a broad range of educational, nutritional, social, and preventive health services. Our staff foster partnerships with families so that they can support school learning and achievement as well as advocate for their children and themselves. We expect that all staff will work collaboratively, and with the community, to promote school readiness while creating a safe, healthy, and protective environment. Position Director of Home-Based Services Union/Non-Union Non-Union Site/Location Mott Haven, 375 East 143rd Street, Bronx, NY 10454 FLSA-Classification Exempt Salary $85,000.00 - $90,000.00 annually Location note: East Side House Settlement (ESH) is a non-profit organization serving the South Bronx community. Responsibilities The Director of the Home-Based Program has additional responsibility associated with the management of staff members, including reporting, health/safety/nutritional services, and coordination of children with special needs. Responsible for curriculum development and continuity for home-based children and expectant families while supervising the home visitors, parent engagement associates, and doulas, and incorporating the concepts of home-based and Early Head Start education. Enhance the teaching ability of staff while giving parents greater insight to child development and the learning process as envisioned in the Early Head Start Home Base Program. Regularly assign home visitors, parent engagement associates and doulas to attend workshops, trainings and classes; evaluate such staff monthly and annually. Oversee ongoing program monitoring, reviews, and analyses to ensure compliance with DOH/HSPS. Monitor execution of staff responsibilities through monthly supervisory meetings, department team meetings, and review of child files with notes and observations in the system. Facilitate parent interaction and involvement through monthly meetings and parent groups; function as Program serves. Coordinate recruitment and screening of new applicants ensuring ERSEA program compliance for participating families. Responsible for transition of children from the Home Base program to Center-based programs. Monitor staff to ensure adequate family participation, development of family goals and assessments, and connection to vital community health and social services; work with families on decision making and birth-related needs. Complete 3 visits per family per program year to model best practices and ensure quality services. Monitor implementation of the home base curriculum, prenatal curriculum, and assessment tools. Ensure adequate staffing for daily operations and manage backfills when needed. Attend scheduled staff meetings, in-service trainings, educational meetings, and other supervisor-requested meetings. Support community residents, parents and program participants’ active involvement in the agency and complete tasks to advance these efforts. Ensure safety as a priority in all responsibilities and ensure compliance with agency, federal, state, and local regulations. Supervise home visitors, family engagement associates and doulas. Serve on the Leadership Team and School Readiness Team. Develop policies and protocols for expectant families and educational outcomes of home base children. Additional responsibilities related to management of the Early Head Start Home Base Program, including health, safety, nutritional services, coordination of service to children with special needs, purchasing and personnel supervision. Qualifications Baccalaureate degree/accredited college in Early Childhood Development/Education or related field; MA in Education/Early Childhood Education preferred. 1 year paid Administrative/Supervisory experience or direct instructional service provision for 5 years or more is a plus. Certified permanent or initial Certification (N-6) from NYS Department of Education. Competencies Critical thinking, using data to modify, inform and/or change practices. Supervisory Responsibility Yes Work Environment This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This is a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool, as necessary. Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time, exempt position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 p.m. Work days/hours are subject to change based on ESH’s program needs. Remote Work ESH has determined that up to 0% of this position can be remote due to COVID-19. Subject to change as public health conditions evolve.
